When the Buggles released their classic hit, "Video Killed the Radio Star," in the late 1970s, it symbolized the role that technology, music videos in particular, would have on radio and the way people consumed music. In many ways, the new wave of artificial intelligence (AI) tools is causing a similar feeling. AI technology is maturing and infiltrating society in ways that will have a big impact on the future of business. But will it really replace humans?

AI is growing at a rapid clip. According to Grandview Research, the global artificial intelligence market size was valued at $136.55 billion in 2022 and is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 37.3% from 2023 to 2030.

AI has already been a big presence in our life for years. Siri has helped us set reminders for appointments and tell us the latest weather forecast in real time. Chatbots are popping up on websites to engage users and answer questions on the fly. In the workplace, all types of software have been developed and adopted that automate tasks from accounting to marketing to human resources and beyond.

New applications like ChatGPT and Midjourney are bringing renewed attention to AI and are taking the business world by storm. Artificial intelligence represents the dawn of a new era, and, like any new technology, the businesses, leaders and individual contributors who embrace it and adapt will be the big winners.

So let’s look at the real promise of AI, which is helping businesses produce better outcomes.
