Ann Arbor mayor calls forced return to in-person meetings ‘deeply unwise’

ANN ARBOR, MI — After over a year and a half of meeting virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ann Arbor officials may be forced to return to in-person meetings soon.

Some aren’t happy about it, while at least one City Council member said he welcomes it.

Come Jan. 1, under the state’s Open Meetings Act, public bodies must meet in person again, which Mayor Christopher Taylor calls “deeply unwise.”

Taylor and other council members spoke out Monday night, Nov. 15, while adopting a resolution to allow certain city boards and commissions — to the extent allowed by law — to continue meeting electronically after Dec. 31.
