I’m just emerged from “panic mode” in helping my end users work remotely. Now that I have a bit of time to think about next steps, I’ve been debating about whether I focus on security, or on connection issues. What is your advice?
I’m a big cybersecurity geek. But I think it’s important to focus on endpoint connectivity first while making sure that you build security into every step. Let me explain that a bit. I’ve noticed that a few small managed service providers I know required each and every end-user to do endpoint connection testing every year. They had to prove that their home cable modem/router could handle high-speed connections. This may have seemed to be just another painful thing that IT folks expect us end users to do, but it had a real purpose: Now that their employees are working remotely, their IT workers now know that each worker can connect to the Internet. That’s an essential first step.
